Obsessions

Weaving:

Weaving is my main obsession! I can start weaving in the afternoon, get into the zone and look up to find that it is past midnight!

Lately, I have been doing a lot of super duo and Tila bracelet designs.

I love playing with the pattern and colors

I found a new pattern that I love!

I have also been doing a lot of Herringbone with super duos as well. I just love the way they look when using the herringbone weave!

Stringing:

I am getting ready for the season, and trying to build up stock. I splurged on red Creek Jasper at our local bead show and had a lot of fun combining it with other stones and with Czech glass.

Love the pendants! I also liked how the African Turquoise complimented the Jasper.

I have a great fondness for Czech glass. I particularly love these cupped half circles. I enjoy stacking them so that they resemble  armadillo armor! They seemed to like the Red Creek Jasper and looked quite nice together.

The Evolution of a Signature Design: The “Flying V” Choker

Evolution of design

These round scoops were the first version of the Flying V choker necklaces. They were made with 3 mm cubes and finished with buttons.

I then started using 4 MM squares to make a bigger statement. I switched from a soft scoop to a bold V shape.

I named my new design the FLYING V- because the shape reminds me of a flock of migrating geese:

I used sharply contrasting colors for a bold statement. Root beer brown and metallic bronze, or  Gunmetal black with gold…

I tried matte finish with shiny borders and shiny interiors with matte borders

I progressed then, to evoking the colors of the natural world: the soft summer colors of an oak opening, the Sunset, and the sunrise.

This one evokes the deep greens of the maple woods, with a chain that mimics the maple Samara.

Below, I was inspired by Lake Superior at dawn:

Spring is here, and we are happy to see it!

How  I love to see the greening of the world after a long winter of muted whites and greys. The colors of nature in spring inspire me ceaselessly.

Sunday Afternoon

Hi there!

We had an early morning rainstorm today that was cold and nasty, but it blew away the humidity and the result was a perfect summer day!

I sat out on the patio after the rain storm passed and beaded while my hound dog snoozed. The flowers opened up and the clouds moved off. It turned out to be a beautiful day.

The birds were singing, the breeze was cool and gentle, the sun warm and pleasant.

It reminded me of an old song by the Moody Blues: (Substitute Sunday for Tuesday)

Tuesday, afternoon,
I’m just beginning to see,
Now I’m on my way,
It doesn’t matter to me,
Chasing the clouds away.

Something, calls to me,
The trees are drawing me near,
I’ve got to find out why
Those gentle voices I hear
Explain it all with a sigh.

I’m looking at myself, reflections of my mind,
It’s just the kind of day to leave myself behind,
So gently swaying thru the fairy-land of love,
If you’ll just come with me and see the beauty of

Tuesday afternoon.
Tuesday afternoon.

Tuesday, afternoon,
I’m just beginning to see,
Now I’m on my way,
It doesn’t matter to me,
Chasing the clouds away.

Something, calls to me,
The trees are drawing me near,
I’ve got to find out why
Those gentle voices I hear
Explain it all with a sigh.

Remember that pendant I was making at the beading brunch? There were two more of these pretty agates left to complete.

I finished one of them today. The stone was not symetrical in it’s cut, and as a result, it was really hard to capture in beads!

I had a lot of trouble getting the beads to fit right and stay tight!

This one still needs to be embellished, and I also plan to make the rectangular one into a bracelet.

But, since it is getting late I guess I will have to save those tasks for another day!

Sweet dreams everybody!

Beads and Brunch

A few beading friends got together today. We had planned to go to the Milwaukee bead show, but decided instead to use up some of the beads we already have!

First, I had to move my bouquet of Peonies off the beading table…

Then, I fixed up a fresh rhubarb cake with coffee, and off we go!

Later, we stopped for lunch of deli sandwiches, fruit and veggies.  Once the edge was off our hunger, we went right back at it.

Today I completed a necklace that I have been working on.

This rope was woven with a variety if different sizes of Aged Picasso Czech seed beads and a brass chain.

Alice did some shopping at the beading table and we decided to swap the necklace for a beautiful shirt and dress!

I think we both got lucky today! (I love my purple dress!!!)

Here I am demonstrating my “technique” on making a beaded bezel. Some of the agates that I plan to use are pictured here. I will use the small one in a bracelet, and the two large ones in a pendant necklace with beaded rope.

More cake, and then a brief and rather disgruntled discussion about the American political fiasco that is the current presidential race, and it was time to call it a day.

(In our defense, my husband came home at noon and ate half the cake.  REALLY!)

Happy beading everybody!
