Summertime Art Fair Season is Upon Us

I have been a “busy bee”!  Busy beading to get up some stock for the late summer and fall season. (Available by contacting the artist directly- see bottom of post).

Mostly, I have been making woven cabochons and necklaces. Recently, I made two of my signature “Woven V” statement necklaces. Both of these necklaces have beaded embellishments at the top to hide the fastening of the chain to the weaving. On these two, I used the Silver Star pattern by Nicole Starman and added some enhancements of my own as well.

Here is “Blue Ombre“: I used blue 4 hole tiles instead of triangle tiles on the bottom layer and added a bead in the top corners for fun.

Here is “Deep Forest”: In this one, I added green leafy accents to the Silver Star pattern to emulate the green leafy forest canopy of summer. The crystals are dark green like the iridescent cubes in the center stripe, and the petals are a dark copper to help transition to the copper chain. I used a chain with metal wings that emulate the samara seeds pods that fall from maples trees in the autumn. This one sold yesterday at it’s first showing!

Brown fan woven earrings:

In this piece, I used a large agate gemstone for the centerpiece. I created a Peyote weave bail to hang it from. I then chose similarly colored Super Duos and seed beads to make a very long rope. The top is accented by Czech glass faceted beads and gold tone chain.

Peacock fan woven earrings:

Meet the ladies: Two Blue Victorian cameos and Diana the Huntress.

Purple fan woven earrings:

Here are few odd ball offerings:

Finally, I have created some more Fairies and Pixies:

Sunday Afternoon

Hi there!

We had an early morning rainstorm today that was cold and nasty, but it blew away the humidity and the result was a perfect summer day!

I sat out on the patio after the rain storm passed and beaded while my hound dog snoozed. The flowers opened up and the clouds moved off. It turned out to be a beautiful day.

The birds were singing, the breeze was cool and gentle, the sun warm and pleasant.

It reminded me of an old song by the Moody Blues: (Substitute Sunday for Tuesday)

Tuesday, afternoon,
I’m just beginning to see,
Now I’m on my way,
It doesn’t matter to me,
Chasing the clouds away.

Something, calls to me,
The trees are drawing me near,
I’ve got to find out why
Those gentle voices I hear
Explain it all with a sigh.

I’m looking at myself, reflections of my mind,
It’s just the kind of day to leave myself behind,
So gently swaying thru the fairy-land of love,
If you’ll just come with me and see the beauty of

Tuesday afternoon.
Tuesday afternoon.

Tuesday, afternoon,
I’m just beginning to see,
Now I’m on my way,
It doesn’t matter to me,
Chasing the clouds away.

Something, calls to me,
The trees are drawing me near,
I’ve got to find out why
Those gentle voices I hear
Explain it all with a sigh.

Remember that pendant I was making at the beading brunch? There were two more of these pretty agates left to complete.

2016-06-10 14.30.25

I finished one of them today. The stone was not symetrical in it’s cut, and as a result, it was really hard to capture in beads!

2016-06-12 19.28.21

I had a lot of trouble getting the beads to fit right and stay tight!

This one still needs to be embellished, and I also plan to make the rectangular one into a bracelet.

But, since it is getting late I guess I will have to save those tasks for another day!

Beads and Brunch

A few beading friends got together today. We had planned to go to the Milwaukee bead show, but decided instead to use up some of the beads we already have!

First, I had to move my bouquet of Peonies off the beading table…

Then, I fixed up a fresh rhubarb cake with coffee, and off we go!

Later, we stopped for lunch of deli sandwiches, fruit and veggies.  Once the edge was off our hunger, we went right back at it.

Today I completed a necklace that I have been working on.

This rope was woven with a variety if different sizes of Aged Picasso Czech seed beads and a brass chain.

Alice did some shopping at the beading table and we decided to swap the necklace for a beautiful shirt and dress!

I think we both got lucky today! (I love my purple dress!!!)

Here I am demonstrating my “technique” on making a beaded bezel. Some of the agates that I plan to use are pictured here. I will use the small one in a bracelet, and the two large ones in a pendant necklace with beaded rope.

More cake, and then a brief and rather disgruntled discussion about the American political fiasco that is the current presidential race, and it was time to call it a day.

(In our defense, my husband came home at noon and ate half the cake.  REALLY!)

Happy beading everybody!

Spring Fever: Gearing up for the Art Fair Season!

Soft new leaves in pretty pastel shades of green, reds and purple have suddenly popped forth on the trees this week! I took notice of this event and was inspired to create some leafy concoctions…

2016-04-30 11.46.18

These leafy creations are ready to be finished with a clasp and fastened to your wrist!

Although I have not put the chain on it yet, I have already woven a matching necklace

As the sun comes out a little earlier each day and warms the earth, I feel it’s golden warmth more and more each day. This sparkly creation was made in honor of the sun and it’s power over the earth!       HAPPY B’EARTH-DAY!

April Challenge

2016-03-24 19.24.41This spring I took the advice of my friends and entered a beaded piece into the Etsy Bead Weaver’s group monthly challenge.

The April challenge was to use the colors and textures of ancient Greek art and design, and use them to create a unique piece of jewelry that spoke to the tragic fate of Pompeii.

I wove a thick beaded cuff  using Czech Glass Tila Squares in rich Brick red and Picasso black. These colors are reminiscent of the tile Mosaics and clay pottery of ancient Greece. The colors also reference the red hot lava and black ash of the terrible fate that befell Pompeii. Black Picasso Super Duos border the cuff as well as the beaded cabochon in the center.

2016-03-24 19.23.43

The colors on the beaded cabochon reflect the colors used in Ancient Greece and help tie the focal piece to the cuff. The cabochon features a scene from Greek Mythology. In it, we see the ninth labor of Hercules, dressed in the lion skin, accepting wine from Hippolyte as he attempts to obtain her girdle.

2016-03-24 19.20.00

I really enjoyed entering the April Challenge! This was the first time I have ever entered a bead weaving challenge. I enjoyed stretching myself to research the colors and styles of art in ancient Greece and then making a bracelet that fit the parameters of the challenge. My fellow beaders submitted some really awesome work.

Am am honored and thrilled to have come in third place!

Etsy Beadweavers April Challenge

Hi there everybody. Spring is about to arrive. It is currently hiding just behind a snow storm here in Wisconsin!

2016-03-15 17.26.53

Just wanted to let you know that the Etsy Beadweaver group has an April challenge that I have entered. It will be my first time entering an item in any kind of challenge and I am excited!

The theme for April is Pompei. I tried to use colors that reminded me of the ancient Greek pottery with deep reds and black. I added accents of dark green and gold as well.

Some of my fondest memories as a child was listening to my dad read from a book of Greek mythologies. Therefore, I wanted to get into the ancient Greek frame of mind by adding a focal piece that refers to a Greek myth.

I chose a cabochon with a depiction of Hercules accepting wine from Hippolyte. He is wearing his lion skin and hoping to charm her our of her girdle. As I am sure you all know already, this was his ninth labor. (I admit, I had to look it up myself).
